i always read stuff about bands and musicians and think, hey that might be good... but i don't know if i want to buy their cd or not.. i don't have friends whith huge record collections that i can go through and find stuff in.. i have trouble listening to the radio.. and i keep screwing computers up downloading crap so pretty much, buying music is the only way i can discover it.. reading about it and buying it. but hearing about stuff from people is always good too.
so i wanted to make a thread just about random bands that you think people should be listening to or want to ask people about.
like, the libertines... anyone know if they're any good? bright eyes?
there's a bunch of other stuff i want to know about but i'll remember it later...

I've heard a bit of the Shins but don't have any of their albums. I think they're just really good pop. Indie folk love them As for me, I'm more curious about older bands that i've only heard a few songs from like, The Who, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. I'm on the verge of getting Wish You Were Here. Also may be getting a Moloko album soon, but don't know anything.

Wish You Were Here the album, as well as the song it has Shine On You Crazy Diamond and a couple of other songs.
I don't think i'm going to get the one with Indigo on it, I think the one I want is called Statues. I've heard the final track called Over and Over and it's so goooood. (Moloko)

the shins are on the new and improved subpob... that's how i heard about them.. plus the people in jbhifi in the city in brisbane love them lots... i think i'll get one of their albums.. i need more indie-pop in my life i think. i wanna know more about the stones too. i had an argument recently with my dad over who was in the rolling stones... he thought there was only one guy called mick.. i won . which is funny 'cause i hardly know a song of theirs. i think i might get sticky fingers first, but i don't know... anyone else have any ideas? and the smiths... i have no clue what album to get next.. i still have only the one.. i'm thinking i'll get meat is murder or hat full of hollow though. as for downloading.. i keep breaking computers doing that... plus i listening to songs on albums rather than on their own... they usually flow the way they're supposed to... plus you get the pretty artwork and most importantly the liner notes... i love liner notes.

The Shins signify a lot of things, including the return of a buoyant subpop, but also just simply indiepop. They're quite original in their sound, and you don't often get that these days.
I'd recommend Sufjan Stevens as well.
Yeh kim i went through that phase last year, going through all the old rock bands et al. Pink floyd are grouse, but may i once again redirect attention to my avatar - Syd Barrett, original vocalist for pink floyd, back when they were psychadelic and not so pretentious. Some says he's just stupid and off his head... i say yes possibly.
Bright Eyes... hmmm yeh, he's kind of the emo pin up boy these days which is bizarre. Like the shins he's pretty offkilter. Takes a while to grow on you.
other slightly quirky bands include Disaster Plan, and old dEUS.

I think I want to explore some Bjork...I absolutely loved that song that she performed at the Olympic opening ceremony- "Oceania", so if there any fans here, what are some of her better albums?

that's a question for Su.
I think about 60-70% of the albums i've taken hold of lately have been Australian. I'm looking to get (gradually) Nathan Gaunt, Andromeda, 78 Saab and a new Fourth Floor Collapse single that's out soon. Anyone want to recommend or ward me off of these?

yeah joga is good. bachelorette, pagan poetry, unison, army of me.
erm, album-wise, they're quite varied. if you like oceania you should probably go for medulla or vespertine.
kim - go for love outside andromeda, tis a really good album.

I heard the "Imagine" cover on the APC album and I've got to say it sounded downright awful...I'm a fan of APC but they really butchered a classic..

I think i'm dropping getting those cds mentioned earlier to try and get my Pearl Jam back. I picked up Vs. today Wanted Vitalogy, but wasn't there. Not a bad consolation though.
