"I find this to be a very defeatist attitude to take" You know what, take my attitude however you want, I am NOT sticking up for her. I have a talent not to be so one eyed on matters. Guess what! I find there are other more important (believe it or not) issues to think about. Rather than kicking up a fuss about her, I ignore her. And you can call that a defeatist attitude, Honestly I couldn’t give a shit what you might think of me mate. Record company’s don’t care about what punk listeners or r’n’b listeners think about POP artists, they care about the money and at the moment britters is raking it in. And the teenyboppers are loving her music. Yeah the Beatles where awesome I agree with you, but that was back then, I mean I still love the Beatles now, But kids nowadays want more upbeat crap.

yeah, mark, we don't get personal attacks against us for stating our own opinion at this forum. amazing, huh? Indeed. Re: Britney Spears . *shrug* She does her stuff and can sing. Some of it's catchy, most of it's crap. I won't be buying an album of hers anytime soon, but *shrug* some people seem to like it. As for "pop" music. As was said, The Beatles were pop music but are considered by most to be 'good'. Paul McCartney can't read music but he's still a good musician. Michael Jackson would be considered "pop" yet he can probably play the piano better than Paul Dempsey. My point is, that "pop" music has got a bad name in recent years due to a lot of it being... crap, but don't write off ALL popular musicians as being talentless or corporate whores. Maybe this is why some people complain that Something For Kate have become too "popular". They assume that popularity = crap. It doesn't always. ...my two cents...

Pop music has only seemed to of disintagrated (sp) in the past 3 or 4 years. I used to be interested in pop. I remember back in '97 when Hanson became popular, being 9 at the time I was completely in love with them. Even though now I'm older I don't really appreciate their sound anymore, I have to admit, those boys, unlike many pop artists these days, put the effort in. They wrote all their lyrics, 50% of the music and actually played instruments! :oSHOCK It was good to see something like that for the kids to listen to for once, considering everyone else my age was listening to the Spice Girls! They also had been singing and playing instruments together their whole lives. Then they went away and Britney and Five and all that other crap came in and I lost interest in pop music. :Waits for people to throw rocks after she admits to liking Hanson:

yeah, mark, we don't get personal attacks against us for stating our own opinion at this forum. amazing, huh? Am I Mark? If so, if what i posted was interpreted as an insult or a personal attack on Clizza that was never the intention. I was just offering my opinion on the matter so you can take it or leave it. Yes Clizza i am disagreeing with you on this but thats not wrong, it is ok to say what you feel as you have done "Honestly I couldn’t give a shit what you might think of me mate". This was just meant to be a discussion rather than your wrong and i am right.

Claire - I don't think everyone is attacking Pop Music as a whole, but more the way that record companies choose to use that medium to exploit people and make a hefty profit. IT's not about the music anymore, it's about money. "they care about the money" Precisely. They couldn't care less about an amazingly talented band like Something For Kate. They don't want to use their money to promote them on TV and all over the world, when they can do that with someone like Britney Spears who is a complete sell-out, and will compromise anything and do whatever they tell her. They then don't have to worry about selling albums. the reall money is made by selling singles (which is what they do). It's like the Spice Girls. They pump as many singles and albums out of them as possible before everyone starts wondering why they were even interested in them in the first place.
The record company has used them up and spat them out, but they don't care, they made a killing of a profit.
People like Britney are also evil because they re-inforce the idea that to be a musician you don't need talent or heart - you just need a pretty face and a tight ass (nice breasts will also help you sell more records)

You know what muzz...i think your pretty smart...same with you etc. I know there not attacking Pop Music as a whole but i believe that Britters is a big part of it. She does have talent, you cant tell me that she dosnt otherwise i would be labled as an idiot, look at the way she dances and sings live, if that’s not talent I’ll eat my own shit. Yes they don’t care about the music anymore but I believe SOME bands sing and write songs because they love it, Like Train. Oh I don’t care anymore I have said what I think and nobody is going to change my option. Etc your 13 right? You’re a very smart girl, well done you have won my respect! lol u too muzz ;D

Yes Britney does have talent i guess but i also think that talent should be a measure of success as opposed to success being a measure of talent.

I think if I remember correctly, it was the movie Mr Holland's Opus where the main character makes the point, that to be successful in the music business, you DON'T need to be able to sing or write intelligent lyrics. Many famous songs in history that have made money have not had intelligent & deep lyrics or quality singing. So Britney's not doing anything original. She's just following the well worn trend of others.
Sad? Yes. Do you have accept it? No, and that's why we're here, we're the contrary to the norm. But the fact is, that's just the way it is. A lot of people seem to like thoughtless crap music. They always have.

Regardless of what happens to her songs in history, as far as I'm concerned she deserves no credit for something she did not create.

Yeah Claire I am 13 and thanks for that, no one has every called me smart before! Basically this is how I see it- Britney will be there regardless of what we think. She will have people who like her, she will have people who hate her. If people want to listen to music like that they can and we can listen to our stuff. I think that there are many other bands and singers that deserve more credit than her, but hey, that's just the way the industry is. As for me, I only listen to Triple M and Triple J so I won't have to listen to her on the radio. If she is on tv, I can simply turn it off. If I, by some strange chance, every see her I will not go near her. We can not forget she is there, and it is hard seeing her get credit for things when all she does is sings and writes about 40% of the lyrics, whilst SFK still struggle and they write all the lyrics, music, play instruments and sing. As I said, that's the way the industry is. It is shallow. I think I'm gonna cry.......
